Launching Europass in Cyprus (1/2006)-EN

Mr. Christos Taliadoros, Minister of Labour and Social Insurance officially launched Europass, a new EU wide initiative, in Cyprus on 13 December 2005.

Europass essentially is a portfolio of five documents: the Europass CV, the Europass Language Passport, the Europass Mobility, Europass Certificate Supplement and the Europass Diploma Supplement. While these documents are distinct and each has critical features of its own, they all share one purpose – to help people communicate their qualifications and competences.

The launch, which was indeed very successful, was attended by the Minister of Education and Culture Mr. Pefkios Georgiades, representatives from the Greek National Europass Centre, a representative from the European Commission, a representative from Cedefop, social partners, stakeholders and those involved in the delivery of the Europass, including representatives from education and training organisations, employer groups, trade unions, public employment services and community and voluntary interest groups. All participants were given informative and promotional material as well as a promo gift - a USB memory stick containing information on all five Europass documents.

While the European Commission officially launched the Europass initiative in February 2005, the launch in Cyprus was one of a series of similar events that have been taking place right across Europe over the past year, bringing together the key organisations responsible for implementing

the Europass initiative in each respective country. In Cyprus, the Cyprus Productivity Centre is the designated National Europass Centre.
